Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Today I wanted to share something from Dr Mark Hyman. If you don’t know him,

Dr. Hyman is a practicing family physician, a ten-time #1 New York Times bestselling author, and an internationally recognized leader, speaker, educator, and advocate in the wellness field. He believes that we all deserve a life of vitality—and that we have the potential to create it for ourselves. He is dedicated to tackling the root causes of chronic disease by harnessing the power of Functional Medicine to transform healthcare. *

In a recent two-part series of his weekly house call he answered a question from one his followers: why can’t I lose weight. This is such a common question with so many possible answers, and I hope this will help you get some clarity as well.

Watch the two videos below to find out what Dr Hyman sees as the most common reasons you can’t lose weight.

Part 1

Part 2

I was really struck by the statistic he shared at the end of the second video: we’re 171% more likely to be overweight if our friends are overweight and only 40% more likely, if our parents and siblings are overweigh. That’s how much peer pressure influences our behaviour. Isn’t it crazy?

One important reason I feel he missed out is looking at weight as an opportunity for exploration and growth. Because sometimes you can eat a perfect diet, but if things are out of alignment in your life you still might be holding onto the unwanted weight. And that’s where I work with my clients.

If you’ve tried everything you can think of to lose weight, you have tried Dr Hyman’s recommendation and you’re not seeing the results you want – lets explore it further, let’s see what’s been holding you back.
